Reasons Why Wix Might Not Be The Best Fit For You - Enter Shopify, Ecwid, Local Express, and Planyo.

As we said in the other post, we love Wix for a variety of reasons. From the flexibility to allow our clients to edit when and where they want, to the ease of using integrations, Wix is our number one choice for small businesses.

But when is Wix not a good fit? Well, that depends on the industry.

1) You have a market or a grocery store, you offer weighted items, you want to expand delivery by using third party drivers

Wix Stores could be used for a market, but with any online sales platform money will be lost on weighted items. You can't go back and edit the prices, even if you lose one penny per sale it adds up. Wix also doesn't allow substitutions if an item is out of stock.

That's where Local Express comes in. Finding this platform was a game changer for us in our services for markets. Local Express offers a grocery store platform, just like you'd see at the big retailers like Walmart and Target. The platform allows you to find replacement, get the exact weights on a customers order, and it'll automatically hail third party delivery drivers to do your drop offs. We also use this platform for restaurants that want to offer seamless deliver. It's better than going on DoorDash, Uber Eats, or Instacart, as you can pack your own orders and you won't have to mark up your items 20%. Best of all, Local Express is ALWAYS growing and the additions they've added in the last year alone have made the platform have even more value.

We still use Wix with Local Express. We create a Wix site that has a sub domain of shop.yourwebsite.com. This allows us to really showcase your branding and have an industry leading site while still focusing on shopping.

2) You're only in e-commerce, you shipping nationwide, and your product that appeals to the masses -  You need Shopify

Wix Stores is great for a brick and mortar location that's selling a few items online. The marketing is done at the store level, and the online orders are mainly from customers of the brick and mortar store.

If you're primarily an e-commerce business, you need Shopify. Not only does Shopify better suit the needs of the store, their integrations on platforms for things like affiliate marketing, smart email marketing, shipping solutions, and even data tracking far surpasses what you can do on Wix Stores. We always use Shopify in these cases.

3) You have a brick and mortar store with a heavy online presence and you ship nationwide, you're not super tech savvy and you want to do it yourself

For the same reasons above, Wix Stores is not the best fit. We like Ecwid for this situation. Ecwid is another great online sales platform that is a little less intimidating than Shopify. It still has great integrations and is very easy to use. Ecwid definitely takes less time to operate than Shopify. The customer service is great, available 24/5 through chat M-F. This platform has also had a lot of growth over the years, which we love to see.

4) You have a vacation villa for rent, you own a hotel, you offer rentals of transport, or you offer hourly time blocks to rent storage or lockers - You need Planyo

Wix Bookings excels when there's a few services for a service provider, like a therapist, a yoga instructor, a dog walker, etc. It's limited with integration of all the services you offer, and conflicts can arise.

Years ago, we found this amazing company out of Switzerland called Planyo. The interface could be updated, but what the platform lacks in looks it exceeds in operation. We have provided this system to a variety of different clients. Hotels and condo rentals, and even condos with multiple different owners have benefited from using Planyo. Storage lockers available on the beach for the day, month, or year, giving priority to year long renters first. Even hourly rentals of privately owned tennis courts.

So there you have it. Wix is great, but there's times we need another solution.
